DevOps Engineer
About the Role
We're looking for a DevOps Engineer to build the rock-solid, secure, and scalable infrastructure that powers Bondi. You'll be responsible for creating a "zero-downtime" environment that supports a product capable of transforming how organizations work. This role demands expertise in CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, security, monitoring, and disaster recovery - all while maintaining the agility needed for a fast-moving startup. You'll build systems that scale seamlessly from hundreds to millions of users.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Architecture: Design and build scalable, resilient AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- CI/CD Pipeline Development: Create and optimize automated deployment pipelines that enable fast, safe, and frequent releases
- Zero-Downtime Deployments: Implement blue-green deployments, canary releases, and rolling updates to ensure continuous availability
- Cloud Optimization: Manage and optimize AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront, etc.) for performance and cost efficiency
- Security & Compliance: Implement security best practices, vulnerability scanning, secrets management, network security, and compliance requirements (SOC2, GDPR)
- Monitoring & Observability: Build comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Datadog
- Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimize resource utilization, and ensure system responsiveness under load
- Scaling Strategy: Design auto-scaling mechanisms and capacity planning strategies that handle traffic spikes and growth
- Disaster Recovery: Implement backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity measures
- Developer Experience: Create tools and workflows that make deployment and debugging fast and easy for engineering teams
- Incident Response: Participate in on-call rotation, respond to incidents, conduct post-mortems, and implement preventive measures
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- 4+ years of DevOps/Infrastructure engineering experience, preferably in SaaS or B2B environments
- Deep expertise with AWS services and cloud architecture best practices
- Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred, CloudFormation acceptable)
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI)
- Proficiency with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, or ECS)
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or Go)
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Datadog, New Relic)
- Understanding of networking, security principles, and cloud security best practices
- Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis) in production environments
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, Security Specialty)
- Experience with microservices architecture and service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)
- Knowledge of GitOps practices and tools (ArgoCD, Flux)
- Familiarity with serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions)
- Experience with compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001, GDPR)
- Background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices
- Previous startup experience, especially in high-growth environments
- Experience with cost optimization and FinOps practices
What We're Looking For
- Reliability Obsessed: You think about failure modes, edge cases, and what could go wrong — then build systems to prevent it
- Security-First Mindset: You treat security as a foundational requirement, not an afterthought
- Automation Advocate: You automate repetitive tasks and believe manual processes are technical debt
- Performance-Driven: You continuously optimize for speed, efficiency, and resource utilization
- Proactive Problem Solver: You identify and fix issues before they become incidents
- Clear Communicator: You document decisions, explain tradeoffs, and collaborate effectively with engineers
- Pragmatic: You balance ideal solutions with practical shipping, knowing when "good enough" is the right choice
- Continuous Learner: You stay current with DevOps trends, tools, and best practices
Key Challenges You'll Solve
- How do we achieve true zero-downtime deployments while shipping multiple times per day?
- What's the right balance between managed services and self-hosted solutions for our scale and complexity?
- How do we build observability that gives us deep insights without overwhelming us with noise?
- How do we ensure our infrastructure can scale 10x without major re-architecture?
- What security measures are necessary to protect customer data while maintaining developer velocity?
- How do we optimize cloud costs as we grow without sacrificing reliability or performance?
Success Metrics
- System uptime: 99.9%+ availability
- Deployment frequency: Enable multiple daily deployments
- Mean time to recovery (MTTR): < 15 minutes for critical incidents
- Infrastructure cost efficiency: Optimize cost-per-user as scale increases
- Security posture: Zero critical vulnerabilities, pass security audits
- Developer satisfaction: Fast, reliable deployments with minimal friction
On-Call Expectations
- Participate in on-call rotation (typically 1 week per month)
- Respond to critical incidents with defined SLAs
- Conduct thorough post-mortems and implement preventive measures
- We invest heavily in automation and monitoring to minimize on-call burden
Why Bondi?
